About Preliminary Assessments
Mandated regulation as of June 1, 2007 from the NJDEP requires that all child care centers conduct a Preliminary Assessment (PA) to receive a letter of No Further Action (NFA) before the NJDHSS and NJDCF will approve a renewal licensing application. A Preliminary Assessment (PA) is conducted in accordance with the Technical Requirements for Site Remediation and that safe drinking water is being provided.
A Preliminary Assessment identifies the presence of any potentially contaminated areas of concern at the child care center site. The Assessment is based on diligent inquiry and includes an evaluation of comprehensive historical information.
About Indoor Environmental Health Assessments
Mandated regulation for all child care centers that fall under any of the four Uniform Construction Code (UCC) group codes which are: Group B - Nail Salons/Dry Cleaners; Group S - Storage; Group H - High Hazard; Group F - Factory/Industrial. Otherwise, it is strongly recommended by the NJDHSS to complete it.
The Indoor Environmental Health Assessment (IEHA) evaluates the whole indoor and outdoor environment that has impact on the building which houses the child care center. It reviews all historical and current activities of the child care center operation and it evaluates the operations of nearby businesses. The Checklist submitted by the NJDHSS is followed to conduct and report the IEHA.
